Myths and Legends: Heracles and the Lion

Heracles and the Lion. To find out more about the labors of Heracles, see this Wikipedia article: link; for information about the image: image source.

The first of Heracles' labors was to slay the lion of Nemea. The lion's fur protected it from all weapons, but Heracles finally knocked the lion unconscious with his club and then strangled it. After the lion was dead, he could not strip the lion's skin because of its supernatural fur. Athena provided the solution: Heracles had to use the lion's own claws to strip its skin.
